Standing in front of the vehicle with the hood open, looking at the distributor, number 1 on the distributor cap would be at the 6 O'Clock position.

I haven't done this on my Blazer yet but my manual says to reach up behind the bumper to the light socket, twist it and it will come out of the housing with the bulb so you can change it.

Yes you can. It is done all the time. You can buy a after market kit with everything you need to install a v8 in your truck.

This has a vaccum operated servo; you probably have a vaccum line that has come off to the transfer case.

It is important that the spring end of the thermostat is facing into the engine when installed.

Yes it does. standing in the front of the engine it will be bolted on the left side of the TBI / Throttle body injection unit.
