My '72 manual says to use DEXRON auto trans fluid in a 4-speed. It also notes that if objectional gear rattle at idle is apparent, the trans can be filled with Multi-Purpose Gear Lubricant SAE 140.

No. Depending on the climate where the vehicle is driven will dictate the oil you should use. Usually 5w30 is the most common viscosity used in that vehicle.
The D100 probably has the 3 speed standard transmission. If so, it doesn't use gear oil in the transmission. It uses Dextron II or III. The fill plug is found on the side of the transmission about half way up.
