Several different reverses are depicted on the half dollar coin:

  • Flowing Hair, Draped Bust, Capped Bust and Seated Liberty (up to 1891) display a heraldic eagle
  • The Barber half (1892-1916) displays a heraldic eagle, but a different design from the preceding.
  • The Walking Liberty half (1916-47) displays a perched eagle.
  • The Franklin Half (1948-63) displays the Liberty Bell.
  • The Kennedy Half (1964-present) has the Presidential Seal and in 1975 and 1976 Independence Hall was on the reverse of the Bicentennial half dollar.
