The front of the Canadian $1 coin features a loon, an aquatic bird common in Canada. The reverse side carries a picture of Queen Elizabeth II.

By convention, the "tails" side of British and Commonwealth coins is the side with the monarch's picture, because that's on all such coins, while the individual design of each denomination is considered to be the heads, or obverse side.
