The growth of a population brought about as births exceed deaths. The natural increase rate is calculated by subtracting deaths from births and then dividing the result by the number of the total population. Thus, for the UK in 1992, subtracting death rate, 11.2/1000, from birth rate, 13.9/1000, gives a natural increase rate of 2.7/1000.
