Prednisone, is a type of anti inflammatory drugs. These drug help in the treatement insect bites, migraine headaches, crohn's disease and many such diseases and also in certain cancer treatments. It's in the class of drugs that are used to suppress the immune system to prevent transplant rejections. However, depressing the immune system is also one of the drawback to taking this drug; while using it renders a patient more susceptible to infections. I would think of it as being caught between a rock and a hard place. You need for certain diseases, but at the same time it makes it easier to succumb to infections.
