Best Answer

rTMS stands for repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation. A magnetic coil, attached to a special machine, is placed over a part of the skull and trains of simulations are administered. It is a treatment suggested for severe depressive disorders. Most experts do not think it is as effective as drug treatments or electro-convulsive-therapy, but some patients prefer it because of drug side effects or fear of ECT.

Is RTMS therapy useful in cerebral palsy patient?

It is still too early to say. Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) is being tried on a number of conditions, including cerebral palsy, but while there have been some initially promising results, the sample sizes were very small and as of the end of 2012, researchers were still not comfortable making a statement about whether it works or not. Some doctors believe this treatment has great potential, while others feel there has been enough study to make a determination about whether it gets long-term results. You would be well advised to discuss this therapy with your specialist, since he or she will have access to the latest medical research.
