I would guess if a battery has a water to acid ratio high enough to freeze that it would not hold a charge well. Be sure the case did not crack.

It is unusual to add battery acid to a car. Cars (not hybrids) normally use lead acid batteries and the acid is sulfuric acid, however you don't add sulfuric acid. When the fluid in a cell is low you add distilled water. Only the water has evaporated, the acid has not.

car battery's are filled with a special acid electrolyte which is 65% water however if the level drops it is ok to top them up with distilled water the water doesn't turn to acid it just mixes with the acid
