An Admiral in the US navy is pay grade O-10, with a minimum salary of a bit over $15,000 per month - since that's the salary for 20 years of service and it normally takes considerably longer than that to reach Admiral rank, a more typical amount would be close to $17,000 per month. Depending on length of service, it could potentially be up to $18,675 per month.

That's for a full Admiral. The lowest "general officer" rank in the US Navy is Rear Admiral (lower half), which is pay grade O-7. To make RDML, you'd normally have to be a Captain for at least three years, and it usually takes 21-23 years of service to reach Captain, so the typical RDML would be making about $11,500 per month.

Will your answer depends on whether he/she is the rank of commander (o-5) the commanding officer of a small ship such as destroyers, fast frigates or submarines or the rank of captain (o-6) as the commanding officer of an aircraft carrier or a larger submarine. Also they MUST be a senior person in that rank, usually with more than 3 years experience. On all aircraft carrier both the commanding officer and the XO or 2nd in command are both the rank of captain.

In the military you get what is call basic pay, then lots and lots of benefits.

let say an (0-6) captain with over 26 years in the navy makes about 10k a month in basic pay, he also gets free medical/dental and though they technically pay for their food it is free, because it is an allowance, then they get bonuses for time at sea and a whole of other benefits depending on the training or skills they hold such as being a former pilot.

EVEN IF THEY EARN 200K A YEAR (basic pay + benefits),

THAT IS STILL NOT ENOUGH

for all the irresponsibility's they are accountable for.

a commanding officer at sea get 2 or maybe 3 hours (if lucky) of sleep at night

if an (e-2 which is the lowest rank enlisted person onboard) makes a mistake or he/she does something that causes damage to the ship or others personnel such as a fire the c.o. is done and gone.

case in point the c.o. of the uss enterprise.

E-9 is an enlisted rank, he is not an officer. It would be called Master Chief Petty Officer. Military pay is dependent on time served assuming he has 20 years his base pay would be around 5400, he would also receive other monies for housing. If he was married or had dependents and living in Norfolk (huge Naval town) he would receive almost $2,000 for housing. If he is on sea duty he would also receive sea pay based on his amount of time at sea and the amount of time currently at sea (sea pay premium). That pay would probably be anywhere from 400 to 600 bucks depending on the circumstances.

So around $88k a year for base pay and housing. Maybe another 9k or so from sea pay and family separation pay if he does a 6 month cruise.

If he/she is serving overseas there would also be another special pay called COLA (Cost of living allowance). It changes all the time and depends on the location you are serving. Anywhere from a few hundred dollars into the thousands. There is a COLA calculator online.

Generally the same as officers of the same rank and time in service. Differences taken into account would be hazardous duty and hostile fire pay.

It depends on the rank and the time in service. The pay tables can be found online. There are also adjustments for location and special skills, such as being jump qualified, of flight pay.

The base pay is exactly the same as any equal ranking officer in any other position. Pay is determined by rank and corresponding pay grade, not by job title.
