Solder is used to create a conductive bond between electronic components.

In other words, it allows electricity to flow between different things.

On a circuit board, it bonds the electronic components (such as resistors, chips, capacitors, etc) to the various metal paths that are on the board. Once soldered, the electricity can flow through the components, through the solder, and across the metal pathways.

Solder is usually 60% lead and 40% tin. It melts at a relatively low temperature and can be added or removed with a soldering iron.

Answer =

Solder is used to form a mechanical bond between metal parts. The added benefit of electrical conductivity makes it a vital component in manufacture and repair. Many types of solder exist, designed to suit specific purposes.

Solder Uses

Aside from electronics, solder is used for Plumbing, jewelry making and other specialty manufacturing industries and repair processes where metal parts cannot be effectively or safely welded.

When heated, it bonds with the metal(s)you're trying to attach. It melts at a lower tempature, & melding & joining itself the the other metal(s). It is also softer, so a welded joint it more likely to break than the metal it is welded to. There are different variables also, depending on the metal used, type of solder, flux & quenching, (cooling the metals in water after joining them, that came effect the temper-(flexibility & strength).
