That part of a government tasked with generating and distributing Propaganda. In the middle of the 20th Century, the Nazi government was quite adept at this and it was called "The Reich Ministry of Public Enlightenment and Propaganda."

There are some today that believe terrorist groups are attempting to copy this approach to further their causes.

The Nazi Propaganda Ministry no longer exists since 1945. It was headed by Dr. Joseph Goebbels and its mission was to spread pro-Nazi policies and ideas throughout the German Reich as well as the rest of the world. This was accomplished through control of all media at the time-- radio, books, magazines, and movies. Through manipulating public opinion the Nazi Party was able to hold onto power and to dupe the German citizens into fighting to the bitter end in World War 2.

Was the use of propaganda the main reason why support for the nazi party grew in the years 1929-32?

No. The line between political campaigning and propaganda may be a blurred one, so opinions on this may vary. When the Nazis were in power there was a ministry of propaganda and the use of black propaganda was widely used against the Jews. But the Nazis made great advances in political campaigning, making use of the radio and aeroplanes to reach a greater proportion of the population than ever before.

What effect did Nazi propaganda had on Germany?

Answer For the most part, the American and British soldier was not tempted to desert their army because they knew that the German army did not have anything better to offer. However, if the soldier was tired and scared, the propaganda might convince him that all hope is lost and to give up fighting. The German propaganda would try to make the soldier think that the people back home had forgotten about him OR to doubt his political leaders.
