The pay scale for 1st round picks is a lot higher. Right now there is no rookie salary cap like there is in the NBA. The higher you go in the 1st Round of the NFL Draft the more MONEY you will get per year. For example Jamarcus Russel was drafted 1st overall in 2007 received a 6yr/68M contract without playing an NFL game.
