want to know where the wedgeway arms company was and what one of their single shot shotguns would be worth
You will need to supply the serial numbers to your shotguns to get the age of your browning shotguns correctly.
This name has been used by several companies, but most of the shotguns encountered with this name will have been made by Ithaca around 1930 - 1950. If your father only THINKS it is a century old, I would bet it is one of these. However if he KNOWS it is that old, I have found one listing that says the name was used by Bacon Arms but it does not say whether or not it was used on shotguns. All other references to Western Arms that I find are for handguns.
I was informed that' some Morsel shotguns were made by Navy Arms Co.
Ithaca did not make any Wards Western Field Shotguns. Most were made by Stevens/Savage or Mossberg.Western Field, the Montgomery Ward brand name, should not be confused with Western Arms Company, a division of Ithaca that made shotguns that appear identical to Ithaca's Lefever Nitro Special from 1929 to 1946.
Western Arms Company was a division of Ithaca that made inexpensive shotguns that appear identical to the Ithaca made Lefever Nitro Special from 1929 to 1946. Yours was made in 1932. Only 400 guns Western Arms Long Range Guns were produced that year, the worst of the Depression. Single trigger versions range fro $150 to $400 in useable to excellent condition.
American Arms imported Spanish shotguns manufactured by Zabala Hermanos, Lanber, and Indesal. Italian shotguns were also imported and mfg. by Stefano Fausti (Models Silver, Waterfowl, and Turkey Special).
I have one of these shotguns. I estimate it is 45 years old.
George Worthington was a hardware store in Cleveland, Ohio, from about 1890 to 1935. Single barrel shotguns were marked with his name by Crescent Arms Co and double barrel shotguns by J. Stevens Arms Co.
Ithaca created a budget line of double shotguns in 1929 that they marketed under the Western Arms Co name. Most were retailed by Montgomery Wards. Production ended at the beginning of World War II. A 12ga Western Arms (Ithaca) double in excellent shape can bring $400-$450. firstname.lastname@example.org
HD Folsom did import shotguns from Belgium with the HJ STERLING brand name.
There are currently (12-29-07) several western arms Ithaca 12 ga. shotguns listed on Gunbroker. The price ranges are $895 - $925. My grandfather left me his when he passed. It was made in 1936 and is still to this day the best shooting shotgun I own.
Several manufacturers made Western Field shotguns for Montgomery Wards. You would have to identify the exact model.
