The Marlin model 20A was manufactured from 1913-1922, had a standard length octagonal 24" barrel and 1/2 length tubular magazine. An optional full-length magazine was available. The loading mechanism could handle .22 s/l/lr interchangeably. The value "used condition" one is $200-400 depending on condition. A mint one will cost more!
It had to be manufactured between the 1912 patent date and 1915 when the company ceased operations.
well marlin introduced the marlin model 43 in 1922 so mabey when u figure out what you really have you could try another question My Marlin Model 43 12 gauge pump (Model number is stamped underneath, in front of the trigger guard) has Pat. 1908 on the barrel. There is also a patent date of 1922. Looks like Marlin did produce the Model 43 earlier than the 1922 date you have.
The Marlin model 24 pump action shotgun was produced by Marlin firearms company from 1908-1915.
If barrel is round, it is a post-WWII Model 29. If the barrel is octagonal, and the grip is checkered, it is probably a pre-WWII Model 29. If the barrel is octagonal and the stock is plain, it is likely a Model 25. That's as close as I can get sight unseen.
I believe I have a Marlin No.18 pump action octagon barrel single shot rifle. Would upload photo but cannot locate this option.
