Bachelor's degrees are 4 years in length. Most students take 4 years to complete them although it is not uncommon to finish in as little as 3 years or as many as 5.

The above is a general answer, but statistics from the College Board tell us that the average time to earn a bachelor's degree is 4.7 years (2008). So the trend is toward 5 years. Disturbingly, only 57% of those who start a 4 year degree finish within six years - so the above data does not count those who don't finish their degree.

You don't need a degree to be any major. A major is a specialized field of study that one takes to earn a specific type of degree. Like Kinesiology would earn you a Bachelors of Sicence in Kinesiology. You will need a degree to earn a degree higher than a bachelors however, you must have obtained the Bachelors degree in order to progress into a Masters program, which is the first level in graduate school. Well an associates degree is a two year degree while a bachelors is four. Not all major will transfer from an associates to a bachelors. For example you can get an associates in nursing and go on later to get your bachelors and it only be about two more years. But if you have an associates in nursing and you want a bachelors in business. You will pretty much have to start over and most likely only your prerequisites will count toward your new degree.
