What is the benefit of aftermarket heads on a big blocks?
They will flow better. An engine is like an air pump. The more air you move through it, the more power you get back out of it. Also, if they are aluminum, then you save weight.
99.9 % of all Chevy small blocks and big blocks came factory with HYDRAULIC flat tappet lifters. Starting in late 1995 Chevy went to a HYDRAULIC roller lifter. Actually, the small blocks started coming through with roller cams with the introduction of the raised-rail heads around 86 or 87. Pretty sure the big blocks went roller when they switched to the non-adjustable valvetrain around late 80's, early 90's.
How do you prevent oil from being sprayed from the air breathers on your 1970 Chevelle SS 454 valve covers Would a PCV valve help and if so where should it go?
I have had big blocks since I was 18 Im 57 now still a gearhead . Have seen this prob. Do you have aftermarket valve covers ? Factory ones have baffles and good ones have baffles .Cheap ones will do nothing but blow oil out total JUNK . My saying I live by is PAINT AND CHROME WON"T GET YOU HOME ! If you do not have a pcv valve you need to install one…
