It depends on your vehicle make and year. When your engine stops, if you have Power Steering, you will lose the power provided from the power steering pump. You will not lose steering. You may have to apply more pressure to the steering wheel to turn but you will still be able to steer. Slowly pull off the road to the right and make sure that your vehicle is completely off the road. Your brakes may also feel different because they are also no longer being assisted by the engine but your brakes will still work. You again may have to push a little harder then when your engine is running. DO NOT TURN OFF YOUR KEY until the car has come to a complete stop.! Turning your key off may lock your steering wheel which will not allow you to steer off the roadway. Always try to pull off at a safe place when possible.
