The largest butterfly in the world is female Queen Alexandra Birdwing Butterfly. It can be found in New Guinea and is know by the scientific name Ornithoptera Alexandrae. Its wing span can reach up to 12 and a half inches (32 cm). The male is generally considerably smaller than the female.
