From its Wikipedia entry:

"Belgica antarctica, the Antarctic midge, is a species of flightless midge, endemic to the continent of Antarctica. At 2-6 mm long, it is the largest purely terrestrial animal on the continent,"

It's life span is about two years, during which it molts through four pupae stages. It's adult life lasts about a week and its only purpose is to procreate and lay eggs for the next generation.
