That large freshwater lake in Nicaragua is Lake Managua, and it is approximately 40 miles long and 15 miles wide. To its southwestern shore lies the country's capital city, Managua. Due to sewage dumping in past years, the lake has been severely polluted, but tourists and residents alike continue to frequent its shores. In recent years the lake has been somewhat cleaned.
