A flashing check engine light usually indicates a misfire. You need to check codes to know possible causes.
Check the fuses, Check the bulbs, Check the brake light switch, In that order.

There is not one sensor. All the ECM sensors are tied to the check engine light.
A Dodge Ram will have a check engine light appear when the engine needs to be serviced. You can reset this light by following the directions in your manual or by having your mechanic do it.
You hook up a scanner and check it for codes.
Your ECM has deteced a problem with the emissions system. The light can be reset after the problem is repaired. You need an OBD2 scan tool to reset the light.
Some years you can, some you can't.
The engine computer has detected a malfunction and set a code.
