== == == == The outer core lies at a depth from 2900 km to 5150 km. It's composed of liquid iron and nickel along with small amounts of lighter elements, with temperatures ranging from 4,000 degrees C to 6,100 degrees C near the boundary with the inner core.

The Earth's outer core is most likely made up of an iron-nickel alloy while the inner core mostly iron and a bit of nickel and cobalt. This is due to inferences that iron, cobalt and nickel are denser than other materials found at different levels in the structure of Earth, such as magnesium in the mantle.
The "outer core" is made up of liquid iron and nickel, along with lighter elements such as sulfur and oxygen. The "inner core" is made up of solid nickel and iron, and contains heavy and radioactive elements as well.
There are two parts to the Earth's core: the inner and outer core.

The inner core is made primarily of iron and is a solid, despite existing at a temperature range of approximately 5000-7000K (5273-7273 degrees Celsius). A solid state is maintained due to incredible pressure (iron normally melts at around 1420K (1147 degrees Celsius)). Some studies suggest that nickel-iron lattices exist in the inner core, as there is generally accepted to exist a large portion of iron. It also has a handful of other elements in its composition, which is known because the density is slightly less than that of pure iron. The identification and respective amounts of the other elements is still uncertain but are thought to include platinum or gold in the very center, as they form very stable compounds with iron. It is about 2440km in diameter.

The outer core is composed primarily of iron and nickel and lies between the inner core and the mantle. It is slightly cooler than the inner core, with a temperature ranging from about 4100-5800K (4373-6073 degrees Celsius) as its proximity to the inner core increases. It is about 2260km thick and begins about 5150km beneath the Earth's surface.

The core of the Earth is thought to consist of solid iron and nickel, with an outer core of liquid iron. (Radioactive elements are likely to sink into both regions due to their density.) The pressure there is estimated at 3 million atmospheres and the temperature as high as 5700°K.
