As an important part of the build-up to World War II, the 'appeasement policy' of Western governments can be seen in a number of socio-political events in the 1930s. Just one example would be the complacency of France and Great Britain in 1936, when the Germans re-occupied the Rhineland. Yet another would be the Munich Crisis of 1938, when 'peace in our time' was achieved at the expense of the national integrity of Czechoslovakia.
