The rich protect their positions by using the power they have gathered to keep the lower classes in there places.

Conflict may take the form of politics, negotiations of family discussions on financial matters. Simmel, Marx and Webber contributed significantly to their perspective by focusing on the inevitability of clashes between different social groups.
