Hamlet relays to Horatio that two days on his voyage to England with Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, they were overtook by pirates. Upon boarding the pirate ship to stand and fight, Hamlet was captured. Hamlet says in his letter that the pirates were well in their mercy, but of course expected some kindness back in some way. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are safely on their way to England still. Hamlet has been released by the pirates and now writes to Horatio to tell him that he's alright. He also tells Horatio to escort his messengers to the King and Queen, for they have messages for them too.

Later on, Hamlet reveals to Horatio what Rosencrantz's and Guildenstern's fates are.

The letter informs Horatio that Hamlet is still alive; he has escaped Rozencrantz and Guldenstern and substituted their names on the death warrant instead of his, that he has been captured by pirates, who want a ransom for returning him, and he is on his way back to Elsinore.

What happened to Hamlet on the ship?

The incident in which Hamlet gets off the ship to England plays an important role in changing the entire plot. As he was being "escorted" to England by Guildenstern and Rosencrantz, he switches the letter that the King had given with the one he writes. The original message that the King had wanted to pass on contained an order to kill Hamlet in England. However, Hamlet switches the letter with a new one which orders for Rosencrantz and Guildenstern to be executed. After this, a pirate ship attacks the ship that Hamlet was on. We are not given much detail on such an occurrence but we find out that Hamlet got onto the pirate's ship as the pirates were attacking the ship that was supposed to take Hamlet to England. Shakespeare does this in order to bring Hamlet back to Denmark and resume the plot. Although, the literary merit behind such a plot manipulation is widely debated as being either acceptable or flagrantly unacceptable.

What does Hamlet do to Rosencrantz and Guildenstern and how does he justify it?

Hamlet fakes death warrants for Ros and Guil which are acted on by the King of England. Hamlet justifies this by saying that they were spies and got what they deserved, especially as this was the death which Claudius had planned for Hamlet with Ros and Guil's help. "They did make love to this employment" says Hamlet. Horatio is not wholly convinced, especially since R and G probably had no idea what their warrant said (it was sealed, remember). "So Rosencrantz and Guildenstern go to it" says Horatio, a bit disgusted by Hamlet's callousness.

What does cladius arrange to happen to Hamlet when he arrives in England?

Claudius feels threatened and in danger by Hamlets behavior and as a precaution sends him to England, where Claudius also sends a letter to kill Hamlet upon arrival in England.
