Kopi Luwak (civet coffee) is one of the most expensive coffees, and also one of the rarest. It is actually regular Arabica beans that have been eaten and passed through the digestive tract of an Indonesian civet cat (not really a cat at all). Being so rare, it is the object of counterfeits and scams. Real Kopi Luwak can cost anywhere from $4 to $20 a gram ($1,814 to $9,070 per pound).
Another variety that is not quite as rare but just as highly prized is Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee. Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee grows only in a very narrow band of altitude on the slopes of the Blue Mountains on the island of Jamaica, and is strictly controlled by the Coffee Industry Board of Jamaica. Nearly 90% of Jamaican Blue is exported to Japan, and can cost upward of $55 a pound.
If you're asking about regular coffee, the largest size hot is 2.25 and the largest size iced is 2.94. (these are Boston prices) If you're asking about custom made beverages such as lattes and frappucinos, the possibilities are endless. I've rarely seen anyone get a drink over $6, but if you added enough extra shots in addition to special milk and syrup, it could add up!
The most expensive coffee to purchase is, surprisingly enough, elephant dung or Black Ivory coffee. The coffee costs $50 for a cup and $500 per pound. The reason for having elephants digest the coffee before brewing is that the elephant's digestive system gets rid of only the part of the coffee bean that makes it bitter, thus allowing the coffee to be as strong and as black as you want without making you gag.
