It is an imaginative method to capture the audience using sound and rhythm as to create an emotional response through the medium of words either written or spoken. Alternatively poetry can be acted or displayed in picture form however in these cases the name gets changed to 'show' or 'play'. Rhyming is by no means a necessity however it is required to invoke certain emotions.
The word is of Greek origin (verb: ΠΟΙΕΙΝ) (noun:) ΠΟΙΗΣΙΣ,
meaning: to create, to make, to give birth to.
