What is the difference between DNA genetic material and genetic information?
DNA is deoxyribonucleic acid which is made up of phosphate, deoxyribose sugar and organic nitrogenous bases. It is a totality of both codons and anticodons. it is the source of genetic information.
Genetic information refers to the code or specific information carried by a codon (nucleotide) which can be "transcribed" into a messenger RNA to build a specific protein, enzyme or hormone in the body.
A prokaryotic cell absolutely contains genetic material! This is because all cells that reproduce contain genetic information. A prokayrote's genetic information is stored in it's DNA. The only main difference between the storage of DNA in a prokaryotic cell and a eukaryotic cell is that prokaryotic cells do not contain a nucleus, therefore the DNA simply floats within the cell.

Proviruses and prophages are similar in that they both insert their genetic material into the nucleus of the host cell. Prophages do this in bacteria only, and can also convert to lytic reproduction. In lytic reproduction the genetic material leaves the nucleus as the cell is destroyed. In proviral reproduction the genetic material will permanently remain in the nucleus.
