What is the difference between Windows NT and Windows 2000?

Basically, ME was a new coat of paint for Windows 98. It had a look similar to Windows 2000 and some added functionality over Win98, but also seemed to have a large number of reliability issues. ME was geared towards the personal computer user. Windows 2000 was developed from the Windows NT kernel, making it a far more robust platform. Since 2000 was developed more as a server operating system, it lacked some "personal" functionality, such as graphics and other function geared towards gamepley. Much of this is included in Windows XP, which is a more personal use extension of the Windows 2000 foundation.

There is no difference between them.

Some people call it 2000, some others call it 2000 NT.

Windows 2000 is based on NT Technology, they are just different ways of calling one same thing.

Windows 2000 offered several improvements over Windows NT, including a more stable environment, support for Plug and Play, Device Manager, Recovery Console, Active Directory, better network support, and features specifically targeting notebook computers.

Win2K is based on the same file system called as NTFS as of NT. But Win2K can also be set up using FAT32 file system a predecessor of NTFS. NTFS allows us to use long file names and is much faster than FAT32 file system.

Windows XP and 2000 are different versions of windows nt. Windows 2000 is NT 5.0 and XP is 5.1, Vista is 6.0. They each are built upon the NT kernel and each are just upgraded versions of NT.
