There are three versions of Windows Movie Maker:
Windows Movie Maker v2.1 (for Windows XP)
Windows Movie Maker v2.6 (for Vista/7)
Windows Live Movie Maker (Vista/7 Support only)
The only differences between versions are add-on features and OS dependency.
Windows Movie Maker (v2.1) is only for XP operating systems, while Windows Movie Maker v2.6 is for Vista and newer operating systems such as Windows 7.
The difference between the two versions is basically enhanced editing features.
I don't believe there is any significant difference between Windows Movie Maker v2 and v2.1 other than updates/fixes/patches. Both versions were designed for Windows Xp systems.
A Windows Movie Maker project file (MSWMM) can only be edited/viewed in the Windows Movie Maker program.A Windows Movie Maker movie/video file is the Finished/Published version of the project file which has been converted to a finished Standard Format for viewing.
Windows Movie Maker and Windows PowerPoint are similar programs that allow users to compile media into Project/Presentation form. While PowerPoint is generally business/web application oriented, Movie Maker is primarily used for video editing/creation.
That can't be done on Windows Movie Maker.
Yes, you can.I have both the 2.6 version of Windows Movie Maker and Windows Live Movie Maker.
