A ladder truck has ladders, including one that is attached to the truck and can be rotated, elevated and extended for firefighter access to windows or roofs by climbing up the ladder. It can be used for a platform for a portable hose and nozzle, but it is often considered overly dangerous because of the forces involved. Some ladders have a built-in hose and nozzle to be operated after the firefighters climb up to it.

A tower truck has a hydraulically operated ladder or crane that raises a bucket in which firefighters have already been loaded. It often has a built-in pipe and nozzle for directing water on the fire from the higher elevation. It might also be used to safely evacuate fire victims who cannot climb down a ladder.

A tiller usually has its ladder on a separate piece to the rest of the truck and is movable with the road. The tiller itself is long and attaches to the truck.

A tower ladder is attached without the connection section. This does not enable the platform to move with the road.

A ladder is leaning against a wall if you were going to climb the ladder are you better off if there is no friction between the ladder and the wall or ladder and the floor?

No. if the floor is smooth you must have friction between the ladder and the floor, or the ladder would just slide away. Technically you could do without friction between wall and ladder, but even that can be helpful in preventing the ladder from going sideways.

What is a ladder pole strap?

a ladder pole strap is a nylon strap used to secure an extension ladder to a utility pole to help avoid "kickout." There are models designed to be used at the base of the ladder (between the 4th and 5th rungs) and those designed to secure the top of the ladder to the pole (or strand). An example of a ladder pole strap would be the Laddermate LM100.
