As I am aware, the primary difference is prevalent in Astronomy, where rotation is to spin on an axis and revolution is to move around something. For example: When Earth has completed its orbit around the Sun, it has made on revolution around the Sun. When one Earth Day has passed, its has rotated once on its axis.

Something (like a top) rotates on its axis and a "rotation" is a single complete cycle of such motion.

Something (like a planet) revolves round a point outside itself (eg the Sun) and a "revolution" is a single complete cycle of such orbital motion.

In astronomical terms, we use the word "rotation" to refer to the motion of an object spinning; the Earth spins, and rotates around its axis in one day.

Revolution refers to the movement of an object around another object. The Earth revolves around the Sun, taking 365.24 days.

In some cases, the time of revolution and the time of rotation is the same; the Moon revolves around the Earth and rotates around its own axis just fast enough to keep the same face turned toward the Earth. Because the way tidal mechanics works, it isn't all that unusual for the revolution and rotation times to be equal.

If a planet was in revolution it would be orbiting something if it was in rotation

it would just be spinning.

I think lol :P

How many rotations does the eath complete in one revolution?

There as different meanings for rotation and revolution. In this context a revolution can be the turning of body on its axis. In which case one revolution would be the same as one rotation. That is, there would be one rotation in one revolution. A revolution can also be the movement of a body in orbit around another body. For example, the Earth makes roughly 365 rotations during one revolution around the Sun.
