It depends on the jacket. Some are waterproof and some are not. Check the description of the jacket on their website. Also remember there is a difference between "waterproof" and "water-resistant." Waterproof would not allow any water in. Water-resistant: light precipitation may bead off the jacket, but heavy rain will probably soak through. A fully waterproof jacket will also be seam-sealed (this would also be mentioned in the description of the jacket on their official website). Now, I shouldn't have to mention this, but I've learned that common sense is not so common, so for anyone who needs this clarification, here goes... Please remember that if you jump into a lake in a jacket that is described as "completely waterproof", you will still get wet.
