What is the difference between Alternators and generators?

Generators produce electricity as direct current and Alternators produce electricity as alternating current. As alternators produce electricity more effeciently, and they are smaller and lighter and are used in modern vehicles.A generator creates direct current in the manufacture of power. An Alternator creates alternating current in the creation of power. Alternators can have diodes installed internally so that they have a D.C. output.

What are all the drawbacks of Direct current?

Disadvantages of DC: * High power transformation of voltage is less convenient than AC. AC uses a transformer. * DC does not have the natural break in transmission that AC has (zero twice per cycle) and does not switch off as easily * DC does not provide time to synchronous clocks * DC dynamos or generators are less efficient at converting input power to output electricity than AC alternators. That is why altenators with rectifiers are now used in vehicles instead of DC dynamos.

What are the most common voltage sources?

Some common sources of voltage, (also known as "potential difference" or "electrical pressure") include: For direct current (dc): single dry cells (and batteries containing several cells); dynamos; photovoltaic solar panels. For alternating current (ac): alternators.

What would be the problem if dynamos were the only way electricity was provided in bicycle lamps?

we will be out out of coil wire

Dynamos are generators that send what?

The ones I worked with had an input of 12 vdc and output 400 vdc.

No, there is not.

How is dc electricity formed?

It comes from batteries, dynamos and as rectified AC from alternators as are installed in cars and other vehicles.

Where can a electromagnet be found?

In almost all rotary electrical equipment, and associated with much equipment that is not itself electric - in things such as alternators/dynamos.

What is the difference between the welding current produced by alternator and the one produced by a generators?

Alternators produce Direct Current, Generators produce Alternating Current. Todays' cars have Alternators to charge the batteries.
