Colonizing nations generally dominate the resources, labor and markets of the colonial territory. Colonialism is essentially a system of direct political, economic and cultural intervention by a powerful country in a weaker one. Neocolonialism on the other hand is a term used by post-colonial critics of developed countries' involvement in the developing world. Critics of neocolonialism state that private, foreign business companies continue to exploit the resources of the states that were once colonized by an outside country.
