Inputs are set with ppotential dividers and outputs sent to analogue meters. They fell out of use in the 1960's when digital electronics became practical.
Digital computer use binary digits using saturated logic. For example logic 1 is 5volts and logic 0 is 0volts. Digital gates form AND,OR,NOT and EX OR,Digital counters,shift registers and logic trees enable any task to be set up and performed endlessly without variation. Microprocessors of the 1970's revolutionised digital computing and we have not looked back since.
