Soft wood had a loose well separated grain. These are usually timbers that come from pine and are soft and light in weight. Hardwood has a close fine grain and is usually hard and heavy. Eucalipts are a hardwood that was regularly used in the building industry in Australia. Balsa wood, while not heavy or hard, is still classed as a hardwood because of its close fine grain.

∙ 12y agoHard wood is hard and is used for building heavy structure's. Soft wood is a lot easier to cut so you probably would use a coping saw for soft wood and a tennon "hack" saw for hard wood, hope it helped!X
