What is the definition of Christian? As a noun "a person who exemplifies in his or her life the teachings of Christ:" from dictionary.com

The term: 'mainstream Christians' is a loose label, meaning hardly anything you want it to mean. 'True Christianity' is determined by Jehovah God and his Son; not by majority vote or majority dictionary definition (although the definition above is accurate.)

The term: 'Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses' refers that we are:

1) -- first & foremost 'Witnesses of Jehovah God' the Almighty, the Creator. We are not worshipers of Christ Jesus.

2) -- We are a 'congregation' in that we 'congregate' together as a group. Much like the graphics of the Olympic circles connect with each other, so our various groups are actually connected as one big group inclusive of the little groups. In fact we are known for our 'unity' of beliefs spanning the globe.

3) -- We are Christian, in that we follow the teachings, and example set by Jehovah's son, Christ Jesus. Jesus is actually a witness of Jehovah God also.

The difference is that others who have labeled themselves as 'mainstream Christians', they do NOT worship Jehovah God.They worship a trinity of 3 gods. They also worship a god who 'torments' individuals (angels and humans) 'eternally' in a fiery hell. This is 'mainstream' pseudo christianity, under the guise of Christianity.

What you find on the other answers here have to do with belief systems of various "Christian" religions. Among the hundreds of religions that say they follow the teachings of Jesus Christ many beliefs vary. Since this forum is not intended as an area to debate theology they are posting comments in the wrong area.

A Christian, based on the above definition, would be any individual whose life reflects the teachings of Jesus Christ. When he was asked what the most important commandment was he replied: "'You must love God with your whole heart and with your whole soul and with your whole mind.' This is the greatest and first commandment. The second, like it, is this, 'You must love your neighbor as yourself.'"-Matthew 22:37-39.

At John 13:34 Jesus said "I am giving YOU a new commandment, that YOU love one another; just as I have loved YOU, that YOU also love one another. 35 By this all will know that YOU are my disciples, if YOU have love among yourselves."

Applying these scriptures one who is a Christian would have undivided love among their Christian brotherhood. This would preclude anyone who claims to be a Christian being involved in war. Because by participating in war you put the allegiance to a country, or as would have been said in Jesus day, Caesar above allegiance to God. If this standard were not upheld then a person involved in war could easily find himself killing someone from Another Country who was a spiritual brother. That would certainly not be in line with what Jesus said at John 13:34.

How did early Christians apply the direction from Jesus? They kept themselves completely separate from the world, maintaining strict neutrality when it came to political and military affairs. Please see John 15:17-19; 17:14-16; James 4:4 They refused to take up arms against their fellowman. It is clear from history that first-century Christians joined neither the Jewish nationalist movements nor the imperial armies of Rome.

In imitation of early Christians any who are serious about walking in Jesus footsteps as a "Christian's" would similarly refuse to go to war.

How did it happen that most mainstream Christians assume they must always vote Republican?

This question is based on a false premise. Bill Clinton, a Democrat, received a clear majority of votes to become United States president, and therefore received more than half the mainstream Christian votes. Mainstream Christians in the United States do not assume they must always vote Republican. The so called Moral Majority hardly represented mainstream America.

How did fans of Christian music singer Ray Boltz respond to his announcement that he is gay?

The responses to this varied greatly because there are many kinds of Christains: -Mainstream Christians felt that there is no hierarchy of sin, and that this would be the same as Ray Boltz confessing that he was any other type of sinner. However, mainstream Christians take issue with the fact that Ray Boltz did not just say that he is a homosexual, he also stated that God made him a homosexual. They believe this contradicts scripture and that this makes Ray Boltz an unrepentent sinner. -Liberal Christians respond to this message. There are many Christian churches that accept homosexuals as members of their congregation who choose to loosely interpret the scriptures against homosexuality in the same way that much of the scripture for food and clothing preparation and the treatment of women and wives are now ignored even by mainstream Christians. -Evangelicals responded with dogmatic hatred towards homosexuals (moreso than other sinners) based on scripture.
