The freshwater crocodile of Australia and some other Pacific areas is smaller than the saltwater variety and is generally a fish eater distinguished by long slim jaws and fine teeth. The Australian saltwater crocodile is said to be the most dangerous of all the crocodile species with big specimens attaining a length of 6 metres or more. They will eat anything from a cow to a cat! Sadly, humans have also been taken by them at times.

The Freshwater Crocodile (also known as Johnson's Crocodile) lives in the freshwater rivers, estuaries and swamps in Northern Australia. The Gharial (also called teh Indian Gavial) comes from India. The Gharial has a long, slender snout with approximately 110 teeth which feeds mainly on fish, whereas the Australian Freshwater Crocodile has a pointed snout (much like the point of a capital 'A')
