What is the difference between the Protestant Church and the Church of England?

From a Catholic point of view: there really isn't a difference between the members of the Church of England (Anglican or Episcopalian) or Protestants because all Churches who broke from Rome during the Reformation are considered Protestant since they "protested" the Roman Church. However, the Church of England considers themselves to be "quasi-Protestant" a somewhat cross section of both Protestantism and Catholicism since they still somewhat retained a few Catholic traditions and views, but are separate from the Roman Church.
There are differences between Anglicans/Episcopalians and other Protestants, but the Anglicans are still considered Protestant by the Roman Catholic Church.

∙ 13y agoThe term Protestant generally refers to those churches born out of the continental reformations of the 16th century in Germany and Switzerland.
The Church of England was born out of different circumstances, a political schism rather than theological reform (at least at first), and tried to maintain a "middle way" (via media) between Catholic and Protestant.
The difference is that for the best part of two thousand years the Church of England has been the Catholic Church within England. It holds to the Catholic Faith of the early church before the schism between east and west i.e. The
