The scarecrow is the first companion that Dorothy meets to bring along with to the Wizard as she wants to go back to Kansas, and the Scarecrow wants a brain. The Cowardly lion is met last when Dorothy is accompanied by the Scarecrow and the Tin Man and he decides he would like the see the Wizard to get Courage. It is unknown what the Scarecrow says in the way of a goodbye to the Wizard in "The Wizard of Oz."Specifically, the original 1900 book edition and the beloved 1939 film version record no conversations between the Scarecrow and the Wizard after the latter gives him the brains that he already has. But each one does include the Wizard's farewell statement to Ozites. In the book, he asks Ozites to obey his successor, the Scarecrow.
