The "Gospel" can refer to the scriptures i.e. The Bible, or it can refer to the singular i.e The Gospel of John. The "Gospels" are those books written by Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.

"The Gospel" is the Good News of Jesus Christ. "The Gospels" are the books that contain all the particulars about "The Gospel." The Apostle Paul laid out what he considered "The Gospel" in 1 Corinthians 15:1-8.

'Gospel' means 'good news'. So, any part of the New Testament may be loosely referred to as the gospel - the good news.

More properly, there are 4 gospels - Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.

'Hymn' refers to a song.
