Generally speaking (and using the language of the community), a computer is just the computer "box" (sometimes called a case, tower, or something similar). A computer system is the case, and also the screeen (or monitor), keyboard, mouse, speakers and all the other stuff that comes with a computer that makes it usable.

Computer commonly consists of HARDWARE and SOFTWARE. HARDWARE are the physical parts of the computer like keyboard, mouse, hard disk, processor, ram and Rom etc. SOFTWARE is the set of instructions that tells the computer what to do, For example Windows operating system, MS Word, MS Excel, Norton Anti virus all are software.

Whereas COMPUTER SYSTEM consists of four components 1) HARDWARE 2) SOFTWARE 3) USER 4) DATA

Now USER means computer operators that will use computer for solving different problems. DATA is the collection of raw facts. Data processing is the primary job of a computer. Computer processes data in many ways to convert them into useful information. Processed data becomes information. For example, during census, data of all citizens is collected. Census data is used to get report/information about total population of a country and literacy rate etc.

That's kinda like the difference between an x-ray machine and the field of medicine. a computer is just a tool, like the x-ray or stethoscope. information technology (IT) is the whole field that has grown up around the use of computers primarily in the business setting. This would include everything from software and hardware development to programming and networking, and is basically what allows a company to utilize their computer systems in a productive and cohesive way. IT works with users to identify their needs (for example, a distribution company needs to be able to take orders, process the orders, track inventory, maintain Accounts Payable and receivable, payroll, etc.) IT oversees and manages all these functions as they pertain to the computerized side of the business. Since computers are here to stay, IT is an excellent career choice, if that's what you had in mind, especially as it offers many different areas in which one might specialize.

Computers calculate things... however they do more than your simple handheld calculator. They are much more advanced and used in every day life.

A computer program is something that your computer "runs". for example, internet Explorer, skype and half life 2.

An information system is something you use to store and acquire information. It is not used for anything other than storing information.

Both terms carry the same meaning, and may be used interchangeably. A computer is a set of complex parts that all cooperate to provide functionality, rightly called a "system." The word "system" is often left out of daily conversation primarily because it is redundant. There is no such thing as a "computer" that is not also a "system", as a computer must have many parts to operate, including a CPU, RAM, input and output devices, and so on.
