internet - inter-connected computers around the world that allows the sending and travel of information World Wide Web (WWW) - collection of multi-media resources accessible via the internet Answer: The WWW is PART of the internet. The internet itself is just tons of computers connected together through various connections (a very large "network"). The WWW was an additional "service" which became a part of the internet. Most people think of the WWW as the internet but only because that is the only way to connect to the web. Browsers are used to connect to the www part of the internet.

Telnet, FTP, SSH, and other types of communications are also allowed and used on the internet.
The Internet and the Web are not the same entity. The Web is newer than the Internet. It is a set-up of information along with network software that is used to access it. A web page can be seen simply as a document that holds data or pointers (references) to data. In this case, data can be text, images, graphics, and programs. Web pages often contain links to other pages. A website is a group of related web pages.

The Web uses the Internet for communication purposes. In so doing, the Web makes communication on the Internet easier, more productive and more enjoyable.

The internet is the physical network (or network of networks) made up of copper wire, fiber optics, radio waves etc that connects computers together. The world wide web is the websites that are linked by hyperlinks that are accessed using the internet.

The World Wide Web is only one part of the internet. There are many things you do when using the internet that do not involve using the World Wide Web. If you use a programme like MSN Messenger or are checking your e-mail using Outlook, you can do those without being on the Web. You have to be logged on to the internet to do those, but you do not have to be using the Web or even have a browser open.

The internet was officially launched in 1989, but can trace its history back to the 1960s. The World Wide Web was not formally launched until 1993, and it uses the services of the internet.

An intranet is a private network that is sort of like a mini internet, normally a company's private network. It is not accessible through the internet, but some people may be able to access it, given permission by its owners.

In a technical sense, the "internet" refers to the physical infrastructure of connected computers -- a network of roads, in a sense. The "world wide web" (WWW) is a sort of application that runs on top of that infrastructure.

The internet network uses one universal protocol for communicating, called TCP/IP. The web, however, is just one of many services that runs on top of the internet (although it is among the largest and most widely used). The web uses linked hypertext documents as a foundation for information indexing and services such as web-based email.

The Internet is a collection of everything and anything that is shared over a network. You could have your own personal Internet if you had several thousand computers connected together that only you could access. This would be called an intranet. The world wide web is what allows you to view other webpages in HTML format.
