4 cylinder Look at the bottom of engine at the rear side of the radiator
Take the steering column housing off (usually held by 4 screws from the bottom) and remove the starter cap from the back of the ignition cylinder. In a Nissan, the ignition cylinder usually has a T shaped pin which turns the starter. if you can start your vehicle by turning the starter cap with a screw driver, you probably don't have an issue with the starter.
4 cylinder should be at the front of engine behind radiator 6 cylinder should be at the rear passenger side at the bottom of engine

The starter is mounted to the bottom of the block next to the bell housing on the radiator side of the engine. It is in the same place on both the V6 and the 4 cylinder engines.
The starter is located at the front of the engine on the bottom half. It will be one large cylinder (gear) with a small one (solenoid) attached to it. You should be able to see it of you look under the front of the car at the front bottom of the engine.
If it is a 6-cylinder engine the starter is at the "front" of the engine about 10 inches behind the bottom of the radiator. You have to jack up the front of the car and remove it from underneath.
a cylinder is a cone with a circle at the bottom and a wrapping
In the oil pan at the bottom of engine
Open hood and follow side of engine on the front. Should see it. It will be right in middle of car. Easiest to change from bottom though
check for a cylinder shaped object towards the bottom of the motor on the passenger side...see it? should have three bolts holding it flush to the motor...disconnect the battery...unbolt the three bolts and unplug the wire from the starter(cylinder shaped object)...don't forget any auto parts store will buy back your old starter(they get refurbished)
take off plastic shield that goes from bottom of radiator to bottom of motor and you will see starter in bottom of motor
assuming it's a transverse 4 cylinder 2 bolts hold the starter to the tarnny and the engine front mount. They are at the 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock position.
The heaviest layer would settle to the bottom of a graduated cylinder.
The starter is on the side of the engine at the bottom.
