What is the economic impact during and after World War I?

With the amount of men being sent to war many jobs ordinarily performed by skilled laborers were being performed by women and children. Industries flourished with the new need for weapons, vehicles, uniforms etc. The economic impact obviously was mostly negative, however in some cases industries profitted from it. Germany's economy was crushed by the war and after the treaty of Versailles was drawn post-war time Germany would be in economic strain for a long time. In fact Germany had a devastated economy up until Hitler rose to power. The treaty of Versailles meant Germany had to pay for the entire war damages, an impossible bill to pay.
