There were TWO gulf wars. Iran and Iraq abut each other and the Persian Gulf was not involved. The first was fought by coalition forces to drive Saddam Hussein out of Kuwait. The second was fought by the US and a few allies to topple the regime of Hussein and bring freedom to the Iraqi people and all that nonsense.

There were 3 gulf wars in the 20th & 21st centuries:

1. Iran-Iraq War 1980-1988

2. Operation Desert Storm Jan/Feb '91

3. Operation Iraqi Freedom 2003

There was only one Persian Gulf War in 1990 and 1991. The effect was that Iraq was forced out of Kuwait.

It caused a civil war as militias and terrorist groups keep attacking neighborhoods like Sunnis attack Shi'a neighborhoods and the Shi'a do the same. Another thing is that an ethnic group called Assyrians that live in Iraq are persecuted for being Christians and that terrorist factions are bombing their churchs which they pay alot of money for.

As an Iraqi who has lived in Iraq for most of my life, I can tell you that the post war period was probably the worst time in Iraqi history, simply due to the total lack of security. As the Iraqi army left its posts, huge weopons caches fell into the hands of criminals, terrorists and ordinary civilians (most of whom were in extreme poverty) resulting in a free-for-all looting spree. Everyhing was up for grabs from Presidential palaces to government buildings, banks, power plants, museums even electric cables. With no police presence, heavily armed criminal gangs and militias held sway, killing whoever they wished, stealing whatever they wanted and later began kiddnapping scores of people and holding them for ransom (especially targetted were doctors, business men, and members of the social elite and their families). This total mayhem ment that something as simple as going to the market could end with kiddnapping, getting shot (either on purpose or accidentally) or getting killed in a bomb blast.Add to that the fact that electricity is almost none existant , water is scarce ( water and power plants were looted or vandalized), telephone lines were down ( the communication stations were bombed during the war).

On an average day there were about 15 explosions that can be heard while you're at home...car bombs, suicide bombers, IEDs, mortar blasts, RPG rounds...etc. That's not including the various gunfights that erupt between warring militias and gangs or with US forces.

This is only a glimpse of life in post war Iraq since this is such a large subject.

That depends on the point of view you take.

Through the eyes of little Bushy it might be satisfaction, justice done, etc.

Through the eyes of me, the German, and other people who have thought about wars much it might be one step back in the peace process that started after WW2. This peace process stopped even the cold war maybe. At the end of the '80 i started to think there would be peace on earth. At least here in Europe. But a lot of people in the Netherlands keep on blaming innocent people they don't know, for hurt they cant cope with, hurt they cannot overcome. There are still a lot of people in the Netherlands that talk about the German as; your grandfather stole the bike of my grandfather. Now the Jews are no longer to blame for the bad economy, now 'the Muslim' are? or 'the American'? Reasons enough to start another war?

This blaming, probably is an intelligence problem, and not local or so. I place these kind of people under the name : Narcissism. Geert Wilders in the Dutch government is an example of this psychological illness. He most probably has been hurt as a child, and was taught 'they' are to blame. This kind of education is wrong, but a lot of people learn better ways as they grow. It might also be a extremism problem. Arrogance is a sickness to, and when leaders get too arrogant they can bring big damage to their people and the people they decide are enemies. They don't know the persons of the groups/countries they talk about personally. They made some judgment on information they got, and if they want to act on their 'believes' they give commands.

Through the eyes of me and much more other people that are willing to forgive/forget the answer is multiple. We know love is stronger than hate. We know that feeling hate is the feed for cancer, sicknesses, and getting worse. Maybe not all can say it as I, but they know it as I. And that is what is important for more peace. It is good to fight as playing, as sports. Then you know you want to. But fighting for a leader, because he tells me to, i refuse. If he or she would help me to cope with it afterwards i might consider. But this don't happened. Soldiers that stayed alive get back home. The families of them, of the dead ones, of the killed enemies, all these families and friends get to cope with ........ If the whole of Iraq had decided to send planes into the American buildings on 11 September, ok. Maybe than i would agree to teach them a lesson too. But only some group off crazy people have planned this act, for as far as i know. Forget what you have learned wrong, but don't forget how you coped with it. No one learned to live again after his or her hurt by getting back at innocent people. They did by receiving and giving love to people that deserve it.

The christians, israëlians take the war that USA started over now, i think. That's the way of many christians. Walking in someone else's footsteps. First behind, and than secretly, silently taking over. How? Don't matter. Making advantage of someone else's pain and hurt. The christian god is the better one? The one that will heal the souls, the one that sedates the pains? The Muslim god, Allah, must be the one to blame now? Please, help to stop this crazy way of thinking. The Gods might have wanted people to fight. But they must have also wanted us people to learn from these fights. Drugs don't get the preachers and yah-people anywhere neither. Mother nature is much stronger. Why fight any longer about believes with guns and bombs and drugs? We have enough words and languages and music and sounds to do so.

Fear. Creating, forcing fear into people, is also an influence out of this war. I get searched at buildings where 'important' people are everywhere. I get searched at every airport. I have to show my identity to so many. If i would wear a burka, i most probably will be a potential criminal even more. And why? I did not do anything to make me suspicious. I even had two car accidents. It is much more likely you get hurt by a car accident. But searching drug addicts and alcoholics in traffic that is not important to the 'important people' maybe. If you are a teenager in school, you can be even be shot by a schoolmate nowadays. Maybe the leaders should get some less important, and the people that carry them some more important. Show us how to treat a fellow human being right, in stead of wrong, instead of killing their body and soulmates.

Other 'little' problems may be: Hearing a big bang: feeling FEAR FEAR!!!!! And having to take time from 1 second up to 1 year to cope with the feelings afterwards. Seeing or hearing sounds like.........: Having to take time again. Feelings of fear and or hate against...... Because you were taught to as a child, and some story or movie makes you feel it all over again. All together: Blaming someone else for your negative feelings. It will never make you stronger, it will only give you a temporary satisfaction. And if you even take action on this negative feeling, like child abuse, hurting differently and killing of loved ones, than you become a criminal, just like the people you look down to. Like Bush did. He killed more people of the enemy, than the enemy killed of his people. He must have the feeling he won or so. But it didn't bring the killed people back. And it did not prohibit the nature disasters afterwards. And the money spent on the bullets and bombs could have helped his fellow country people that were victims of true superpower by nature better and more i think. Now these people have to start a new living on nothing, as 'an American that shot at Iraqis'. Maybe even as a Muslim American that .... What kind of prejudice must we develop against them? If the leaders teach us to judge a book by its cover, than please, give us also a manual.
