the 8th amendment is basically saying that the accused should not be severely punished if the crime was not that severe. and the punishment should not be that... un-bad (??) if the crime is serious.

∙ 13y agoIt means that if you're arrested for an alleged crime you will not be offered bail that is far beyond an amount solely because it makes you stay incarcerated because the judicial system wants. And that there cannot be a punishment that is humanely mean and unorthodox beyond a set punishment by law.
