Global Warming is caused by increasing amounts of carbon dioxide causing a higher average temperature globally, certain areas may actually cool down due to changes in weather patterns. Global warming causes many other things other than just an increase in temperature. Many places will experience less rain, for example.

Regardless, it is an undeniable fact that the globe is warming. Scientists have mountains of evidence to prove that it is occurring. Satellites and ground measurements show conclusively that average temperatures are in fact rising. But perhaps the most conclusive evidence comes in the form of glaciers. Look at the history of any glacier and you will see that they have receded over the century. These images are commonly available; just type "glacial retreat global warming" into Google images.

Some people, however, claim that global warming is false and that scientists have been conspiring with liberal hippies for more government. This theory, like many conspiracy theories is total garbage. Science, of all institutions is the last institution capable of conspiracy or cover up. Any scientist who revises a theory, any scientist who institutes a paradigm shift successfully is automatically rewarded with power, money, and even fame. People like Watson and Crick, Einstein, Maxwell, Newton, Galileo and Coppernicus who institute a paradigm shift within science are the driving force of great scientific discoveries. It is every scientist's dream to institute a paradigm shift. So to claim that scientists would somehow engage in a cover-up is crazy. It goes against the founding principle of science.

But really, you don't need to be a scientist to see that global warming is occurring. My parents, for example, are avid mountain climbers, and in their trips with me they have noticed how the glaciers have retreated visually even to the untrained eye.

Antarctic ice is melting and glaciers all over the world are rapidly dwindling.

Temperature records from across the globe indicate the earth's temperature continues to rise. The year 2012, for example, was the hottest average year on record for the United States, although it was only the 11th warmest year on record for the entire planet.

The fact that the weather is changing dramatically is causing harm to our wonderful planet. Other evidence for global warming is the increased strength of storms in recent years. While there have been powerful storms in the past, the frequency of such storms was lower.

The ten hottest years on record have all occurred since 1997. For the entire earth the years 2010 and 2005 tied as being the hottest years on record.

Flooding. record heat waves. earth quakes. Acidic oceans. record number of respiratory illnesses. And the highest levels of co2 ever. The solutions are simple. but will cost fossil fuel company's money. mostly coal.

We need to modify the infrastructure for more commuter trains. Out Law the SUV in the U.S. No one needs a huge 4x4 SUV here. A fwd jetta diesel ... or Benz clean running efficient car should be the high class ride. Not an over sized gas hog. so ban them.

And the cheap motor bikes in Asia. get them electric bikes. and better emission controls. make these people turn in thier old bikes for cleaner running models.

Over population should be addressed by having young people educated to use permanent Birth Control after one or two babies. A few less people would help tremendously. We just need about the population 0f the late 80's about 5000 billion and keep it at about that level.

geo thermal, solar, wind to replace all coal power plants.

The solutions will improve life here on earth. And give us a better cleaner future.

Scientist have used many forms of evidence to come to the conclusion that humans are causing global warming, these include:

  • measurements at hundreds of monitoring stations across the globe
  • Independent measurements of CO2 conducted by airplanes and satellites
  • Tree growth rings
  • ice core records
  • sea level monitoring
  • measurements of global ocean heat storage.
  • temperature records suggest that this last decade has been the hottest on record.
  • and many more research methods...

These findings are based on around 200 years of research when the idea of global warming was first hypothesised.

Scientists accept that there is overwhelming evidence that the world is warming.

  • They have looked at all the temperature records.
  • They have noted that the last ten years are the warmest since temperature records began.
  • They have examined what too much greenhouse gas does with the sun's radiation.
  • They have examined the process of photosynthesis, and how important forests are in removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
  • They have used satellite measurements to check sea level rises.
  • They have used satellite data and time lapse Photography to find that sea ice and glaciers are losing ice.
  • They have tested the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and found that is comes from fossil fuels.
  • They have accepted that global warming is happening and it is being caused by the human activities of burning of fossil fuels (coal, oil and natural gas) and deforestation(cutting down trees which previously removed carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere).

The evidence is now so overwhelming that climate scientists are no longer in doubt that global warming and climate change are occurring, and that this is the result of human activity. But even opponents of climate science are beginning to accept the facts of global warming.

A team of physicists and statisticians set out to challenge the scientific consensus on global warming but is finding that its data-crunching effort is producing results nearly identical to those underlying the prevailing view. The Berkeley Earth Surface Temperature project at the University of California, Berkeley, was launched by a Physics Professor, Richard Muller, a longtime critic of government-led climate studies, to address what he called "the legitimate concerns" of sceptics who believe global warming is exaggerated.

But Professor Muller unexpectedly told a congressional hearing that the work of the three principal groups that have analysed the temperature trends underlying climate science is "excellent ... We see a global warming trend that is very similar to that previously reported by the other groups." Although not a climatologist, Professor Muller had the professional training to identify problems in climate data, and was supported by a professional team of of physicists and statisticians, yet he was unable to find any serious flwas in the work of those whom he had formerly criticised. The evidence is in, and has passed the most serious scrutiny.

From the word itself - warming. There is an increased temperature on earth, that leads to coral reef bleaching, wildfires and increased occurrence of typhoons. Sea level is also increasing due to the melting of ice bergs, thus endangering certain low islands along with it's human, animal and plant inhabitants.

Average temperatures around the world have been steadily increasing. We have direct measurements of this.

The question then becomes, is this some sort of natural phenomenon, or is human activity partially responsible for it? Most scientists, and over 97% of climate scientists, now believe the human consumption of fossil fuels which are driving up heat trapping atmospheric carbon dioxide levels are primarily the leading cause for this change.

What evidence is there that global warming is a myth?

There is no evidence that global warming is a myth. There has certainly been a lot of misinformation on the subject, often from vested interests, but the clear consensus of climate scientists is that global warming is real and that human activities are substantially the cause of global warming since the Industrial Revolution.

Extremely conservative groups tend to be more critical of the evidence of global warming. This has more to do ideology than idiocy, even though over 97% of scientists acknowledge the existence of of global warming.

There is no evidence that global warming is affecting meerkats yet. However the warming is gradually affecting the food chains and habitats of many animals. If this happens, the animals have to migrate, adapt or die.
