∙ 12y agoWell yes and no. Both have a 2.2 four cylinder if I'm not mistaken, but I don't think the earlier Cavalier's have the EcoTec motor. And you should be able to get the engine from the '03 into the '97 with no problem.
The firing order for a 2.5L 4 cylinder engine is: 1-3-4-2
The firing order of a Chevy Straight Six motor is 1, 5, 3, 6, 2, 4, going clockwise. The position of the number one cylinder is going to depend on the year of the motor.
If it's a 2.4 L DOHC motor, there is no EGR valve.

Remove the wiring harness or the fan motor belt, depending on the year of your Chevy Cavalier. Remove the fan motor retaining bolts. The fan motor will come off.
looking at the rear of the motor from under the car from left to right 1/3 2/4
My 1997 Chevy Cavalier with 2.2L motor used a 15mm socket.
Yes
Remove the wiring harness from the 1996 Chevy Cavalier blower motor. Remove the blower motor retaining bolts. Remove the blower motor fan. Reverse the process to install the new blower motor.
